Tantuvi is the passion project of Arati Rao, who has been designing heirloom quality rugs under the name since 2015. Disenchanted with a career in fashion and on a personal and professional pilgrimage to India in 2010, Rao met a group of seventh-generation master weavers in India with whom she has built strong and collaborative relationships, while reimagining what Made in India can be for the contemporary home. Her intelligent, geometric designs are inspired by art, architecture, nature, and even mathematics, and are produced with care and consciousness across her line of floor coverings that combine ancient and modern to stunning effect.
Tantuvi says the No. 9 rug was inspired by simple, pictorial film animations from the early 20th century, and their own artistic experimentation with the scaling and layering of basic shapes. Truth be told we're seeing a lanscape of staggered mountains in the distance, or maybe an urban sweep of roofs and eaves from afar...depending on our mood. Either way, we're loving the slightly askew, just ordered enough vibes of this heirloom quality beauty.
NOTEWORTHY
HEMP KULFI ROSE
Earthy tones of India’s landscape with the saturated colors of the local ice cream it’s named after — in this case the pinks and reds of a flavor imbued with rose petals.
NO 7. SOL COTTON
The bisected geometric composition of the No. 7 rug was inspired by simple, pictorial film animations from the early 20th century, and our own artistic experimentation with the scaling and layering of basic shapes.
EULERIAN IN LUNA
Simple and rhythmic lines evoke the light of a desert moon slicing through nighttime shadows.
