Advanced checkerboard vibes. Designed in London and handwoven in India, the Purlin Rug features designer Eleanor Pritchards intricate graphic patterns inspired by Londons architectural skyline and draws its name from vernacular architectural roofing structures. The Purlin design is a pattern of long narrow bars alternating square blocks arranged in a half-drop repeat pattern resulting in a clean linear design with pared-back feel. A palette based on warm and dark greys, the Eleanor Pritchard rug collection beautifully encapsulates a metropolitan spirit.

Hand-Tufted: Hand-tufted rugs have a pile and are manually made using a tufting gun. The rug design is placed on a cotton fabric which is stretched tightly over a frame. The tufting gun pushes wool thread through the cotton, which are fastened to the base of the rug. The rug is then sheared so that all of the loops on the top of the rug are cut, which creates the pile. Hand tufting allows for the creation of curved patterns which vary in strand length. Hand tufted rugs are extremely durable and can withstand high traffic.

Flat-Weave: Flat-weave rugs have a flat finish and no pile. Flat-weave rugs are manually made using a vertical process which involves tightly knotting each thread. A small braid is made with each weave, creating the most characteristic feature of this traditional technique.

care instructions

As with all natural yarns, the wool pile may lose some surplus fibres at first and create ‘fluff balls’. Do not brush the rug or you will force more fibres out. Regular vacuuming will help reduce this effect and will usually remove all the loose fibres after a few months. From time to time a tuft may work loose in the rug and stand out from the surface. Do not pull these out as this may encourage further tufting. If it is a single yarn, take a sharp pair of scissors and cut the thread even to the length of the pile. If it is a loop, cut it as short as possible and you should not have any further problems. The rotating of a loose laid rug over a period of time will help maintain your rug pile surface. Dab the stain immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub. If the wool pile stains use an appropriate stain remover but test it on an inconspicuous area of the rug first. It is crucial that in the event of a contaminated liquid staining the wool the pile, it is cleaned immediately, without being allowed to dry. Leaving it may result in staining. This is a wool product and as with all natural materials red wine will stain. Never use stain removers that contain bleach.
