Jenny Kaplan, Chris Corrado (her husband), and Taisha Coombs are the creative minds behind Pieces by An Aesthetic Pursuit, the NYC-based agency and line of home design goods like rugs and furniture that set the industry all a twitter when it launched in 2017. Color and play take center stage across the collection that redefines the status quo; not every brand can make a wavy rainbow rug feel kinda neutral. Beyond running Pieces and their shoppable short term rental in her home state of Maine, Jenny's also one of our best dressed friends (no small feat). Get to know her through our Afternoon Questionnaire...

1. Where did you grow up?

Eliot, Maine.

2. What are your big three astrological signs (sun/moon/rising)?

Scorpio/Pisces/Pisces. All the emotions.

 

3. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A designer of sorts. I was always creative and interested in fashion, art, and interiors from a young age.

4. What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Starting my product design business Pieces Home from the ground up, alongside my husband Chris and dear friend Tai.

5. What is your most treasured possession?

Chris gave me a custom ID bracelet with his name engraved on the front when he proposed. He also has a matching version with my name on his.

6. What is your greatest extravagance?

Weekly flowers from the Union Square farmers market. Travel as well, because free time these days is a complete luxury.

7. Who are your favorite writers and/or artists?

Agnes Martin, Georgia O' Keefe, Frank Stella, Richard Anuszkiewicz, Frank Lloyd Write, Pierre Yovanovitch.

8. Favorite online source of inspiration?

Instagram and DALL-E.

9. Favorite offline source of inspiration?

Good conversations with loved ones.

10. If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?

Korea and India have been high up on my list for a long time. I would also really like to go back to Japan and explore more of the country.

11. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

(thats) "so pretty" or "so cute."

12. What is your idea of perfect happiness?

A sunny day at the beach with a great book, surrounded by family and friends. Preferably, enjoying lobster rolls with delicious champagne or a fine mezcal.

13. Which talent would you most like to have?

To be multilingual. Goals for 2024.

14. Last good film or TV show you watched?

Currently watching the third season of The Morning Show and making my way through Succession. Also, I just finished The Super Models, which was great.

15. Last three songs or albums you listened to?

Simply Beautiful (Al Green), Sweet Thing (Mary J. Blige), No Me Quiero Caser (Bad Bunny)

16. What’s your comfort meal?

I have a few depending on my mood. Burger and fries from Diner, my brother David's tortellini en brodo, or a well toasted sesame bagel with whipped cream cheese.

17. If you were to die and be reincarnated as a household object, what would it be?

A beautiful vase, always styled with an elegant and seasonal floral arrangement.

18. If you could have any architect, dead or alive, design a house for you, who would it be?

We have been working with Matthew Baird for the past year and a half to design our first house from the ground up. We are big fans of his work, and it's all very exciting.

19. Do you have an overarching design philosophy?

Making quirky palatable. I like to make warm and inviting spaces, with objects that are a bit unexpected.

20. Morning light, afternoon light or moonlight?

Afternoon light is the best light.
